Massage Therapy

Myofascial release, joint mobilization, craniosacral release, visceral manipulation and breath work.

Teresa has been in practise for 24 years. What brought her into this career path is unlike how others have been prompted or inspired. The moment she discovered that massage therapy was a holistic way of helping people without medicine, was the day she decided to become a therapist, not having even tried massage therapy for herself or knowing what level of income she’d be making. It felt right and took her one week to decide after first hearing about massage therapy for the first time. She committed herself to assisting people in feeling better and having an improved qualify of life.

As a yoga teacher in a very hard-working discipline (Forrest Yoga), Teresa has a unique way of bringing in overall breath awareness to areas that have been stuck due to injury, overuse or a general disconnect. In yoga, breathing is a key integrating factor in creating change. This is what she brings to the table. Often, the best exercise post-treatment is to continue deep, mindful breathing to allow space in the body.

Facilitated deep breathing brings more space into the body with varying levels of techniques, calming of the nervous system and release of organs which can have a strong impact on pulling the musculoskeletal structures out of alignment. Teresa started her career mainly in deep tissue and myofascial release but now each session includes only some elements of deep tissue more as a way of blending areas together and to provide a greater sensation to areas that have become numb from prolonged or chronic tension. She moved away from predominantly deep tissue treatments in order to offer more of a much needed array of skills due to the wide range of tensions one may be experiencing and to achieve longer lasting results. For example, visceral manipulation (connective tissue release of organs) contributes to long-term changes in the length of tissues. Tissues with more space have much improved function.

All her new patients share that their first session with Teresa is unlike anything they have ever had. This is mostly due to the fact that each session is tailored specific to you, but not only that, tailored to the moment. This means that techniques with varying levels of depth will be employed without a moment’s notice due to the quickly changing state of the tissues as areas and structures release. Sometimes she will be at your jaw, then the ankles, then the abdomen. Sometimes the pressure will be light then switch to moderate and/or deep and light again. Be assured that the principle of always maintaining your comfort level is a priority, no matter what depth you prefer. Each session is a journey. Be prepared to be prompted to breathe, therefore making this journey a co-creation of health and well-being.

My mission is to empower the patient while nourishing myself, as the facilitator of healing.
